Ex Doug Bird Collection, as noted on the insert. This is a borderline GEM example, coming from the special collection of early copper specialist Doug Bird. Offering a bold and lustrous mint red, this coin has more original RED than the Naftzger coin! That speaks volumes! Hints of olive and steely brown patina account for the B in the RB classification. Generally well struck from the middle state of the dies, the only flaw is a tiny mark above the O in OF on the reverse rim. The eye appeal is truly exceptional. PCGS 4, NGC 1, CAC 1. This coin sold for $3,240 in February 2020 and the Naftzger coin sold for $4,348 in June 2015. The CAC CPG value is $4,060 and the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $4,500.
