Lot Description
1870 Pattern Quarter. Judd-921, Pollock-1025. Rarity-7. Proof-64 RB (PCGS). Mottled crimson, green, red and tan spanning the obverse and reverse in a dizzying array. The strike is full and sharp, and the eye appeal is adequate for a near-gem coin as the surfaces are so clean. The obverse has a bust of Liberty facing right, with her hair in a pony tail, ribbon inscribed LIBERTY on her head which supports a single star on her forehead. Surrounding her is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with a smaller banner ribbon below with the Motto IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse an open wreath of laurel and oak branches, 25 CENTS at the center, STANDARD SILVER above and date below. Free of spots or other surface issues and tied with two others as the finest seen by PCGS. Struck in copper with a plain edge.
