Lot Description
1863 Pattern and Experimental Coins. Pattern Two-Cent Piece. Judd-312, Pollock-377. Rarity-4. Bronze. Plain Edge. Proof-64 BN (NGC). CAC. Obv:Similar to the design that the Mint adopted for regular issue two-cent coinage in 1864, although the motto on the scroll reads GOD OUR TRUST instead of IN GOD WE TRUST. Rev:Also similar to the adopted type of the following year, but the word CENTS is markedly curved and the detail to the wreath is slightly different. The obverse exhibits a nice blend of bright reddish-orange color and glossy-brown iridescence, while the reverse is more boldly patinated in rose-brown. Sharp in strike with an inviting Choice appearance, this is a desirable example of the type that would do equally well in a dedicated pattern collection or an advanced set of two-cent pieces. Provenance: From the Marc Kravit Collection. PCGS# 60467. NGC ID: 29ER. Click here for certification details from NGC.
