- Lot Description
- A lustrous and frosty example dusted with delicate sandy-silver patina, particularly on the reverse. It is smarty impressed with crisp detail throughout the design. In 1960, the Mint introduced a reworked master die for the Franklin half dollar which improved greatly upon deteriorating definition in the original die of 1948. The 1948 Philadelphia Mint is among the better produced Franklin halves, but precious few survivors combine superior striking quality with outstanding surface preservation as seen here. For pedigree purposes, a tiny milling mark is noted on the upper set of horizontal lines on the Liberty bell.
