Lot Description

Warmly patinated in olive-gray, much underlying pinkish-apricot iridescence is also present to further tempt the viewer. Light glossiness to the surfaces betrays an old cleaning, but there are no sizeable marks, and the overall design is boldly defined. The 1862-S quarter is a key date issue in any and all grades - just 67,000 pieces were struck - and when encountered at all, is typically heavily circulated and/or significantly impaired. For the Liberty Seated specialists among us, our offering of this PCGS EF-40 example represents a fleeting opportunity.
