The 1903 has one of the more prolific mintages for Proof quarter eagles, with 197 pieces struck for collectors of the time. <em>PCGS CoinFacts</em> estimates about 150 survivors. The offered example is boldly reflective in the fields and the devices on the reverse are subtly frosted, unusual for this year of production. A few faint hairlines can be seen on both sides, evidence of light handling on the part of one or more owners in decades past. Proof gold coins, regardless of numeric grade, are always a prize for collectors.
