- 1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 11.1-E, W-2870. Rarity-2. Mailed Bust Left. VF-35 (PCGS).
145.5 grains. Considered VF-30 by Robert and VF-35 by PCGS, this coin’s surfaces are more indicative of an AU coin that saw little actual circulation but has the strike and appearance of a VF coin. The fields are frosty and lustrous, the fine die scratches seen only on high grade, unworn coins visible in the fields around CONNEC and around Liberty’s neck and head on the reverse. Well struck for the die pairing, with a swath of reddish corrosion at lower left obverse that mutes the luster a bit.
Provenance: From the Robert M. Martin Collection. Ex H.I.M’s sale of July 30, 1982, lot 605.
PCGS #349 and #686417.
