Description du lot
BB Die State IV. Plenty of frosty mint luster and bold detail remain on both sides of this lovely Choice EF early dollar. Further tempting the viewer is warm toning in pewter and olive-gray that yields to bright silver in the protected areas around the design elements. Isolated softness of strike in the centers and at Liberty's bust is easily forgiven for the type, especially since the surfaces are uncommonly smooth and well composed at the assigned grade level.<p>In terms of total number of coins believed to exist, BB-192 is one of the more plentiful die marriages of the 1800 Dollar. This is one of the two AMERICAI varieties, however, and examples enjoy such strong demand among early dollar specialists that they never remain on the open market for long. The AMERICAI reverse die was caused by an engraver's scratch or possibly the layout of the die with the final A too far to the right, and has the appearance of an "I" at the end of that part of the legend. Additionally, BB-192 is a conditionally challenging variety with most survivors concentrated at the VF grade level, making premium Choice EF pieces, like the present coin with CAC approval, important offerings.
