Description du lot
Minimally toned and visually appealing, the otherwise silver-tinged surfaces exhibit a few wisps of olive iridescence that are more extensive on the reverse. First of the Proof Mercury dimes, and also the scarcest, the 1936 has the lowest mintage of the type at 4,130 coins struck. In his excellent reference United States Proof Coins: 1936-1942 (2016), Roger W. Burdette reports that 25 of these were destroyed for Assay purposes, leaving a net mintage of 4,105 pieces. The author also opines that "a little more than half likely remain in collectible condition." The offered coin possesses scarce and inviting Superb Gem quality for this key date issue.
