Heck DS3, Breen Die State V. The bisecting obverse crack for which this variety is named is prominent on this late die state example, with swelling along the break in the left field behind Liberty's portrait. Sheldon-68 was first identified numismatically by Ed Frossard, the discovery coin appearing as lot 548 in his sale of August 3, 1882. The Widmer Family Collection is releasing an uncommonly well preserved example that was once listed as tied for CC#9 on the 1794largecents.com census. Rather heavily marked, yet free of roughness and corrosion, the most significant blemishes are concentrations of faint pin scratches on and around Liberty's portrait, to include the cap. Sharpness is good despite both the advanced die state and moderately heavy wear, however, and slight glossiness to deep chocolate-brown patina is also a strong suit.
