Lot Description: An impressive 1878 Proof Trade dollar. Stunning Cameo contrast between the deeply reflective mirrored fields and the crisp, frosted devices. Both obverse and reverse fields show bold, and brilliant reflection that is framed by a wonderfully toned palette of rainbow iridescent colors, especially on the obverse. The quality is very high end and certainly in the past this coin would have been classified as a GEM. The eye appeal is great. Only 900 Proofs were struck. PCGS 35, NGC 22, CAC 15. The most recent example sold in February 2022 for $4,560. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $7,000.
