1878 Trade Dollar. Proof-62 Cameo (NGC). A proof-only Philadelphia Mint issue though branch mint coinage for circulation was also made in San Francisco and Carson City—this is the final year of trade dollar coinage that actually saw branch mint production. Medium silver gray with bursts of rich gold, crimson, and neon blue mostly relegated to the obverse; the reverse is adorned with wisps of pale champagne. One of 900 proofs struck. A pleasing coin for the assigned grade.
