Lot Description
1852-C Gold Dollar. Winter Variety 2 (7-H). MS-62 (NGC). A very challenging issue to locate with strong eye appeal, the 1852-C is usually offered circulated and/or with considerable Mint-made problems. You can imagine our delight, therefore, at being able to offer this conditionally rare Mint State survivor. A generally bold strike is worthy of praise, as are surfaces that are largely free of mentionable blemishes. We do see a wispy abrasion in the lower-right obverse field, and a shallow planchet void (as made) is evident in near the central reverse (it affects the second letter L in DOLLAR to an appreciable degree). Satiny luster is most vibrant near the borders, some light scuffiness elsewhere obviously helping to explain the BU grade. One of just 9,434 pieces produced, and among the finest-certified survivors in numismatic circles.
