- Simply put, the 1914 is one of the most underrated issues in the four 20th century gold series designed by Bela Lyon Pratt and Augustus Saint-Gaudens. As summed up by Mike Fuljenz in his 2010 reference Indian Gold Coins of the 20th Century:
The 1914 is the second scarcest Philadelphia Half Eagle of this type, trailing only the 1929. It has never really commanded much of a premium over such very common dates as the 1908, 1909 and 1909-D and many experts consider it to be an undervalued sleeper issue in higher grades. This is just such a piece, a premium near-Gem as confirmed by CAC. Sharply struck and vivid, this is a noteworthy offering for the astute gold collector.
