Ex D. Brent Pogue Collection. Among the very FINEST KNOWN 1831 Capped Bust quarters that exists. Even if there are a few graded numerically finer, good luck finding another that looks like this one! Everything about this GEM is exceptional. From a technical quality perspective, this MS65 is sharply struck and has beautifully lustrous fields that show a swirling cartwheel brilliance on both sides. Every detail is crisply rendered by a forceful impression from these William Kneass' updated dies. With the aid of a strong glass, nothing but the most insignificant touch can be found anywhere. The visual allure is outstanding as well. The radiant, concentric bands of gold, violet, and blue hues that caress the satiny smooth surfaces. Both sides are framed by these bands of color, like a divine halo of color. Truly a spectacular coin that ranks at the top of the Rea, Peterson, Karoleff, Kovach census published in 2010 and was the original NGC MS66* from the Madison Collection. PCGS 14, NGC 20, CAC 8. In the Pogue Collection sale of May 2015, this coin realized nearly $40,000 on an estimate of $25,000-$40,000. In the 2008 FUN auction, this coin realized $57,500. Worthy of a bid well in excess of any published price guide values. Whether you are a bust quarter collector, or looking for a world class example for a type set, this coin should not be overlooked and should see very strong bidding for sure! Cert.
