- Lot Description
- 1881 Liberty Quarter Eagle. Proof-58 (NGC). A rare coin as a proof with 51 minted only, this piece apparently slipped into circulation for a brief time and acquired minor handling marks including a nick or two on Liberty's nose and cheek. Business strikes are even tougher to find today from the mintage of 640 pieces. Attractive coppery-gold toning within the legends and devices, and traces of the orange-peel surface remain as well. Seldom offered as a date and always in fervent demand.
