THE XANNO COLLECTION Despite its status as the more "common" variety of 1873 cents, the Open 3 is still quite challenging in this lofty condition. Tied for second HIGHEST GRADED at PCGS, with just a single MS66+ RD graded higher. A bold RED luster beams brilliantly with a subtle golden glow. Every detail is crisply rendered by an exacting blow from the dies; even the veins in the leaves are fully struck up and defined. A strong glass will aid in the location of a tiny mark or two, but they have no impact on the wonderful and vibrant eye appeal of this PQ GEM. PCGS 6, NGC 1. The most recent example sold for $5,520 sold in May 2022; prior to that, examples have sold for $6,600 in August 2020 and $10,500 in November 2019. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $11,000 and we expect strong bidding for this one when it crosses the block. A great coin for the advanced collector working on a top notch set!
