A very popular Civil War date in an exceptionally high grade. While the mint churned out over 28 million examples, relatively few survive today in GEM or finer grades. This MS67 is bested by just a handful of examples. Vivid mint brilliance radiates with bold, rolling cartwheels on both sides. Subtle iridescent toning pops when you rotate this superlative example in a light. The devices are crisp and bold with razor sharp definition from an exacting blow from the dies. There are no serious marks, lines, or flecks of any kind that might distract the eye and the visual allure matches the high grade. PCGS 12, NGC 5. The most recent example sold for $6,000 in August 2021 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $10,000. Just five examples have ever graded finer, and no doubt anything graded higher than this SUPERB example will cost $20,000 or more!
