Lot Description

One of several highly distinctive die pairings in the New Jersey copper series, and this is a attractively original Maris 54-k with blended golden-tan to dominant medium brown color. A few swirls of slightly deeper patina are scattered about, but do not distract. The same can be said for the natural flan fissure that is out of the way at the left obverse border, where the word NOVA is still fully legible. There is some softness along the right obverse and reverse borders, with minor planchet flaws also seen in those areas, but central detail on both sides is bold and the date is full. A trio of tiny digs in the field above the horse's head requires intent to discern, the in-hand appearance pleasingly smooth for a mid grade New Jersey copper.
