Description du lot
1722-H French Colonies Sou, or 9 Deniers. La Rochelle Mint. W-11840. VF-25. 88.7 grains. Smooth and glossy light brown with superlative visual appeal. Obverse die badly cracked (badly made in the first place), with a network of breaks originating near the rim below 9 o'clock, splitting in three different directions at 1 of the date, along with cracks between RA to L of COLONIES and near the rim. The left center of the obverse is on several different planes, leaving the right side of the obverse a grade sharper than the left side. Denticles frame the obverse from 1 o'clock to near 6 o'clock. A bit of darker toning is present below FR and left of 1. The reverse is notably aligned to 9 o'clock, with complete long denticles present at right side and most of BENEDICTUM off the rim. A crack runs from T of BENEDICTUM to I of SIT, along with other smaller ones. A high quality specimen with a lot of aspects to study under a glass but no real problems to note. Craige called this die pair 8-H. PCGS# 158629. Provenance: From the Ted L. Craige Collection.
