This originally patinated, otherwise medium brown example exhibits a tinge of olive color to both sides. Obverse alignment is to 9 o'clock with the peripheral features at left tight to the border, reverse trivially off center to 10 o'clock with the rings at left approaching the border. There is some softness at lower obverse, likewise at upper reverse, but in general the strike is bold with most features crisply rendered. The planchet is lightly flawed at upper right central reverse, to no detriment, especially given the overall smooth appearance in hand. Definitely superior to many Mint State examples from the Bank of New York Hoard, which contained 246 examples of Newman 8-B when inventoried in 1948.
