Lot Description
1854-FD Octagonal $1. BG-510. Rarity-5-. Liberty Head. MS-65 (PCGS). As the single finest certified example of the issue known to PCGS and NGC, this beautiful Gem Mint State coin is eagerly awaiting inclusion in another specialized collection. Vivid golden-olive surfaces are appreciably reflective in the fields. The design elements are more satiny in texture and offer bold to sharp striking detail throughout. This issue from Frontier, Deviercy & Co. is "only" moderately scarce in numismatic circles, as perhaps best illustrated by the fact that F.C.C. Boyd had at least 10 examples in his extensive holdings. While a number of Mint State coins have been certified, this is the only Gem, and its offering in this sale represents a fleeting bidding opportunity for discerning specialists in the California small denomination gold series. BG Die State I. Provenance: From the Oregon Collection. PCGS Population: 1; 0 finer. There are no examples of this issue certified finer than MS-63 at NGC. PCGS# 10487. NGC ID: 2BL7.
