1879-S Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-55 (PCGS). Keeping pace with the main coinage facility in Philadelphia, the San Francisco Mint also continued to increase half eagle production through 1879 with a delivery of 426,200 coins for the year. Although fairly plentiful in circulated grades, most AU examples offer neither the originality nor the visual appeal of the Fairmont Collection specimen offered here.
