1794 S-72 R2 Exact Head of 1795. PCGS graded AU-58.Lustrous tan and light brown. Mint frost covers all but the highpoints and this cent has outstanding eye appeal. Looks mint state but there is a light touch of friction on the highest points of the hair. The only marks are a thin, very light nick on the cheek right of the earlobe, a diagonal nick high on the neck (may be a mint-made planchet chip), and another very thin nick hidden in the hair left of the neck. In addition there is a speck of verdigris on the nose in front of the eye, but you need a glass to see it. The reverse is essentially flawless. MDS, Breen state III early, before the small lump at the base of the T in LIBERTY. Graded AU55 net AU50 and CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #20602. Bland says AU50 and CC#2. Our grade is AU50. This is the Breen plate coin for the variety in his large cent encyclopedia. A great example of the "Exact Head of 1795" variety, and it comes with a superb provenance. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer.(PCGS # 35699) Value $35,000 - UP
