Splendid Gem Mint State 1871 Octagonal 25¢ Tied for Finest Certified by PCGS. 1871 Octagonal 25¢. BG-717. Liberty Head. Rarity-3. MS-67 PCGS. An impressive Gem by any standards, this mark-free and well-struck little gold coin is pristine enough to still show the circular die lathe marks in the fields. Bright yellow-gold with bold cameo contrast and intense luster present on both sides. You won’t find a finer example of the variety in a PCGS holder! Maker: Frontier & Co., 1864-1872. Edge: Plain. Die Alignment: 360 degrees or medal turn. Die State: II, “Repolished: nose just beginning to separate, base of bun more open, front of coronet intact; no reverse rust.” PCGS Population: 10; none finer.
