Lot Description

Bert Davies Collection. McCloskey 3-D, R.3 "second head". When found uncirculated, early strikes can be distinctly prooflike (some have been so-designated), and that is nearly the case for this modestly vibrant example. The fields display mild reflectivity with evidence of very modest cameo. Pleasing luster around the periphery enhances the nearly perfect medium-gold color, albeit both sides bear some small, wispy hairlines and numerous small abrasions. Several integral planchet voids may be seen on either side, as-struck. Some curls just above the brow are slightly soft but nearly all other details have been exquisitely struck.
