1871-CC Liberty Eagle. AU-50 (PCGS). An impressive AU example of this low-mintage, second-year issue from the Carson City Mint. The bright surfaces display ample luster and appealing red-gold toning. Both sides of the piece are peppered by small abrasions, while high point wear seems minimal for the grade. The mintage came in at 8,085 pieces that represent the modest tally for the year. From this original issue perhaps 100 are known today, and of that select group any grade above Very Fine is indeed rare. The present About Uncirculated example will certainly command considerable attention as a condition rarity, and one worthy of any advanced collection. An opportunity for an astute numismatist who demands and appreciates quality.
