Losbeschreibung: 1788 Machin's Mills Halfpenny. Vlack 23-88A, W-8100. Rarity-2. GEORGIVS III. EF-45 (PCGS). 125.0 grains. Another exceptional Machin's Mills halfpenny, with exemplary two-tone dark olive fields and tan devices. Nearly perfectly centered, well-struck, soundly detailed, and essentially problem free, just a hint granular under a glass. A little old verdigris is present around Britannia's head and near her knee, two little green pits at George's ribbon ends. While this variety is common in well worn grade (and fairly available in high grade with scruffy grounder surfaces), this combination of color and surfaces is unusual. Quite likely in the top 10 among known specimens. Your cataloger has seen a couple of AUs and only a few more he'd call EF. PCGS# 472. Provenance: From the John "Jack" Royse Collection.
