- FROM THE BLUE OCEAN #1 REGISTRY SET This is the sole Deep Cameo Proof Type 2 Nickel and only year in which “War Nickels” were struck in proof. Wholly untoned deeply mirrored surfaces contrast nicely with frosted devices for a two-tone effect. From 1942-1945 the U.S. Mint struck Jefferson Nickels in an alloy of copper, silver and manganese in order to save nickel for the war effort, hence the designation “War Nickels”. The change in composition was noted by a prominent P, D, or S mintmark above Monticello on the reverse, and the present coin is the only proof Jefferson nickel with a ‘P’ reverse mintmark. PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 0. Listed in the PCGS price guide at $6,500. The sole auction appearance in January 2017 recorded a price of $5,405. Only one registry will be able to claim ownership of this FINEST DCAM proof. Bid accordingly! Cert. Number 6606244 PCGS # 94180.00
