This elusive 1863 silver three-cent piece is gorgeous with wisps of champagne-pink and blue-gray iridescence that appear to drift toward the borders, more prominently on the reverse. The devices are sharply struck and the fields are boldly lustrous without any trace of die clashing. The 1863 is rare date in this series with certified Proofs outnumbering circulation strikes by a wide margin. MS-67 coins rank in the top 5% of the certified population.
