A beautifully toned GEM AU 1806 half dollar! Clearly this coin was pulled out of circulation early on and lovingly cared for since that time. Not only is the luster and toning wonderful, but the strike is better than generally seen on this notoriously weakly struck coin. A lilac-amber-rose-gold patina can be seen throughout the details on both sides, amplified by a soft underlying mint glow. PCGS 55, NGC 16, CAC 11. The most recent PCGS/CAC AU55 to sell in auction was a different die variety, which realized $4,818 in the recent FUN auction. That coin was also quite attractive. The current Collector’s Universe value is $6,250 and we think this exceptional coin will surpass the result of the coin in the FUN sale.
