Lot Description
1837 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Reeded Edge. 50 CENTS. GR-17. Rarity-1. MS-64 (NGC). A satiny, smooth and boldly struck near-gem further enhanced by lovely iridescent toning in champagne-apricot. Superior quality for this short-lived Reeded Edge type coin, issued only in 1836 and 1837, before the denomination was changed from 50 CENTS to HALF DOL. starting in 1838. All four issues in this brief subseries represent a quantum leap forward in technology for the Mint, and brought the entire process of making coins into a far more automated and efficient operation. Highly desirable for Mint State type purposes! PCGS# 6176. NGC ID: 24G4. Click here for certification details from NGC.
