The Philadelphia Mint produced a generous total of 14,070,000 circulation strike silver dollars in 1884. Mint State survivors have been plentiful in numismatic circles for decades, as large scale releases from government storage began during the 1940s and continued through the early to mid 1960s. Perhaps surprisingly, the 1884 remains scarce in grades above MS-66, and at the upper reaches of MS-67+ the coin offered here is a decided condition rarity. This beautiful Superb Gem would do equally well in a high quality type set or Morgan dollar collection.
