One of the FINEST examples of this early Jefferson Doubled Die Reverse variety, the present example has a bold visual appeal that cannot be beat! The surfaces are fresh and lustrous nickel-silver-gray with absolutely stunning toning. Light champagne, gold, lilac, peach, and rose hues radiate with the boldness of the mint luster. All the devices are fully struck and exceptionally bold. A rarity in the Jefferson nickel series, especially so well preserved. The Doubled Monticello is a misnomer, it is a true Doubled Die Reverse, with FIVE CENTS also boldly doubled. PCGS 3, NGC 0. The only one to sell realized over $20,000 in February 2016, in a weaker market than today. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $26,500.
