This is a stunning SUPERB GEM example of this very rare and popular Specimen strike commem. These are just so cool! During the production run, mint employees struck 50 examples on specially polished planchets after polishing the dies. Unlike full Proof strikings, these received only one blow from the dies. Glassy reflective mirrors beam in the fields. The icy surfaces have a stunning, blast white, untoned brilliance that glimmers against the sharply struck devices. The eye appeal is SUPERB! PCGS 15, NGC 8, CAC 15. There are just three graded SP67+ and the most recent sold in our May 2018 Regency Auction for $18,213; prior to that, a different one sold for $19,975 in our October 2017 Regency Auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $18,500 and there is just a single SP68 graded higher, a coin that has not sold in auction, making this one likely the FINEST you will see anytime soon.
