- Description du lot
- An original and attractive AU to represent this historic key date issue. Bold steel-gray patina blankets both sides, the surfaces also revealing a hint of reddish-gold as the coin rotates under a light. Well defined throughout, this coin is sure to have no difficulty finding its way into an advanced collection of Capped Bust half dollars. The 1836 is the first Reeded Edge issue of this denomination. The mintage is unknown, although it is estimated at just 1,200+ coins in the Guide Book, and survivors are definitely scarce to rare in all grades. A definite highlight of our extensive offerings of 19th century silver coinage in this sale.
