Lot Description
1808 Capped Bust Left Half Eagle. BD-3. Rarity-4. Normal 5D. EF-45 (PCGS). CAC. Warmly patinated in a blend of light olive and orange-gold, both sides retain sharp to full striking detail to most design elements. There is enough definition remaining to suggest an AU grade, in fact, although accuracy compels us to mention wispy hairlines and a somewhat glossy texture to the surfaces. Of the two known normal date varieties of the 1808 half eagle, BD-3 is the scarcer in numismatic circles. Fewer than 150 coins are believed extant in all grades, confirming the significance of this offering for the early gold variety enthusiast. PCGS# 8102. NGC ID: 25PA. Provenance: From the Alexander Collection. Collector envelope included.
