Lot Description

A handsome, fully original example that is well struck with a soft frosty finish. BG-519 is the most frequently encountered octagonal gold dollar type produced by M. Deriberpie. Two examples were discovered with the treasure of the S.S. <em>Winfield Scott</em> shipwreck, confirming both the 1853 date of issue and the fact that this type was produced for commercial use.
