Lot Description

Breen Die State V, early, with minor die swell evident on the obverse in the date area and around the lowermost tresses of Liberty's hair. A particularly desirable example of the Lettered Edge variety. Delightful autumn-orange brown patina with far more luster and eye appeal than most Liberty Cap cents certified Choice AU. The hair shows stronger detail than often found on this weakly struck variety, without the flat spot we have seen on even higher grade pieces. The surfaces are smooth and pleasing, highly glossy, with a few light planchet striations near the date and a few minor reverse spots and planchet flecks. A sharp and pretty cent, EAC AU50, and a strong example of both the type and Sheldon number.
