Lot Description

This date is fairly elusive in Mint State grades. The frosty, honey-golden specimen offered here is lustrous and sharply struck with only a few scattered marks to define the grade. We note a couple of minor milling marks near star 12 on the obverse. A pleasing survivor from a mintage of 53,600 pieces, a modest output when compared to other Philadelphia Mint eagles of the decade -- only the low-mintage 1889 fielded a smaller mintage.
