- 1840-O Seated Liberty Quarter. No Drapery. Briggs 2-B. MS-63 (PCGS). An attractive, original representative of a No Motto quarter, the variety with no drapery evident under Liberty's raised elbow. Both sides are immersed in a coat of dominant, steel-gray color that is accented by pleasant shades of scarlet and subtle, lime-green toning at certain light angles. Only a few, shallow abrasions interrupt the surfaces. Soft luster is evident underlying the toning, while the strike is pronounced, with all the design features sharply defined, except for the eagle's left (facing) leg and talon. This is a wonderful coin that is at the top of its certified Census.
