Lot Description

1864 Two-Cent Piece. Large Motto. FS-1901. Reverse Die Clash with Indian Cent Obverse. MS-64 RB (PCGS). Medium golden tan with soft underlying luster and a generous amount of satiny mint orange. An unusual and scarce variety -- dual-denomination clashes are rare in numismatics. Perhaps an Indian cent die was dropped on a two-cent die in the die room at the mint with employees there deeming no great danger had occurred, pressing the injured die into use. A cross-over that should appeal to Indian cent and two-cent piece collectors alike.
