1896-S Barber Quarter. AU-50 (PCGS). OGH. One of the three well known keys in the Barber quarter series, from a reduced mintage of just 188,039 pieces. Finding an AU of this scarce S-mint actually presents an even greater challenge than securing a Mint State example. The coin offered here is primarily silver-gray with a few small areas of russet color on the obverse and reverse. Some luster survives in the protected areas of the design.
