- Superior quality for this rare variety, finer than the Jay Roe specimen that was certified MS-63 by PCGS as of our (Bowers and Merena's) September 2003 sale. Bright golden-yellow surfaces are reflective in the fields, frosty on the motifs, with bold to sharp striking detail throughout. BG-850 is very similar to BG-849, although here the numerals are less cruder and bolder in the die, rounded tip of bust touches the top of the digit 8 in the date, as though all the details of BG-849 have been redone and strengthened. In the absence of the "Adam's apple" appearance of the Indian's portrait on BG-849, however, it is also possibly that that variety is a polished state of BG-850.
