- Lot Description
- Axial misalignment of the dies explains the softness of detail at upper left obverse and lower left reverse, while the balance of the peripheral areas are also more or less "fuzzy" in appearance due to die erosion. Dark surfaces are a tad rough, typical of this scarce and conditionally challenged large cent type, but there is some good gloss evident as the coin rotates under a light. A couple of faint pin scratches over and above Liberty's portrait at the upper obverse are the only individually mentionable marks. The Classic Head cent of 1808 to 1814 is one of the most challenging large cents to locate in the finest circulated grades as determined by PCGS and NGC, which fact confirms the significance of this offering for type collectors.
