Lot Description
1811 Capped Bust Half Dollar. O-109. Rarity-2. Small 8. MS-64 (PCGS). CAC. Glints of brilliance remain around some of the design elements, the appearance largely one of rich toning in sandy-mauve, reddish-russet and steel-blue. Sharply struck in most areas with abundant luster in a soft satin texture. Although considered to be a fairly common variety overall, this designation certainly doesn't apply to examples grading MS-64 and finer. The coin offered here is tied for CC#3 for the 1811 O-109 dies in the Autumn 2020 revision to Stephen J. Herrman's Auction & Mail Bid Prices Realized for Bust Half Dollars: 1794-1839. It is the only MS-64 with a CAC designation listed therein. Provenance: From Heritage's FUN Signature Auction of January 2015, lot 4846. PCGS# 39433. NGC ID: 24EU.
