1856 Braided Hair Cent. N-14. Rarity-1. Grellman Die State b. Slanting 5. MS-64 RD (NGC). The color is brick red and attractive with a few small flecks of carbon scattered on the obverse and reverse, but fewer than usually seen on these big coppers. The strike is blunt, particularly on the stars and reeding but sharp on the central devices of Liberty and wreath. Precious few of these early Large cents survive with their full red color, so be prepared for the competition if you would like to secure this delightful coin.
