- Lot Description
- 1863 Experimental Indian Cent. Judd-299, Pollock-359. Rarity-3. Proof-15 BN (NGC). The obverse and reverse employ the same design that the Mint used to strike regular issue 1863 Indian Cents. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Medallic alignment of the dies.<br /> After finding its way into circulation, the experimental nature of this Indian Cent was obviously lost on most Americans through whose hands it passed. Moderate-to-heavy wear has been acquired, not so much though that the major design elements do not retain some bolder definition in protected areas. Dominant copper-brown patina with a blush or two of deeper charcoal tinting at the left-obverse border.
