Near-fully defined with plentiful frosty to semi-reflective luster, this vivid golden-honey example is temptingly close to Mint State. Only 39,140 double eagles were struck at the Nevada coinage facility in 1882. Most of these circulated extensively on the West Coast, although others were shipped overseas and found their way into European bank hoards. Q. David Bowers estimated a circulated population of 900 to 1,200 or more examples when he wrote his <em>Guide Book of Double Eagle Gold Coins</em> back in 2004. Nicer than the typically encountered certified AU survivor, this coin is worthy of strong bids.
