<strong>Obv:</strong> Liberty head facing left with coronet on which LIBERTY is inscribed in raised letters and no star. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA encircles the periphery, the date 1868 is below. <strong>Rev:</strong> A large open laurel wreath with fruit, within which is the denomination 5 / CENTS and above the motto IN GOD WE TRUST in tiny letters. Classic nickel-gray color with faint golden iridescence on frosty to semi-reflective surfaces. Perhaps 40 to 50 examples of this type exist today in all grades, although this upper end Gem is a notable condition rarity. It will become a prize for an astute specialist.
